P1(e) Recce

Recce's are an important step for filmmakers to take when planning for their production, by learning about the location before film there you can ensure that you are prepared in terms of the clothing and equipment you bring and also use your knowledge of the area to plan where you want each shot to take place e.g where you want your camera and actors, as without a recce it may turn out that some shots would not be physically possible. Without performing a recce and knowing the land you could turn up to the scene on the day of the shoot and be unable to shoot due to a multitude of unforeseen issues.

Location Shots:

Location 1: Moat Lane, Top Field

This location was used as we had planned for a scene that showed the boys walking down a small lane before entering the woods this location matched the description of that scene and the area is owned by the school meaning that we could easily get permission to film there.

Location 2: Top Field - Woods

Location 3: Styles entering woods - First path in woods

One of the next scenes shows the boys entering the woods over a style, during our recce we found this location near to where the previous shot had been taken making it a suitable choice as it meant the shots would match up well during the editing phase, it also meant we could shoot in a chronological order.

Location 4: Small Opening - large foot path

As the story progresses the boys enter further into the woods crossing a footpath to reach their destination.

Location 5: Mostly Wooded area and a small opening likely for conservation.

This is the final location in the woods, the opening in the trees allowed for more light to pass into the camera which allowed us to create a more cinematic effect. We also found an area in which we could film our first encounter with the antagonist this area was suitable as it has a log in the centre of a clearing that acted as the focal point of the scene in which we could place the axe into.

We also had to film our last scene in the film studio at school as we required certain props such as Computers, tables and chairs, this location was also very easily accessible for all our cast and crew.

Proforma:

A proforma is a document that is produce after a Recce that is produced to asses the location and the feasibility to film in that area, it covers topics such as accessibility, safety and permission to shoot on the location.
